How to Choose the Right Podcast Hosting Platform
Leah Bryant [00:00:00]:
Hello, and welcome back to the Podcasting Problem Solver. I am Leah Bryant, your go-to Podcast growth strategist, here to help you podcast strategically with more clarity and better results. Now, I know that choosing a podcast hosting platform can feel a little like picking a phone plan, right? Too many options, too many opinions, and you're just trying to figure out which one is right for me. If you've ever opened one of those comparison charts and immediately wanted to close your laptop, well, my friend, today's episode is for you. By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly what questions to ask so you can choose the right posting platform for your podcast goals without getting lost in tech jargon. Can we have a big yes on that one? Right? And yes. I will also share why Buzzsprout has been my go-to for the past 5 years and why I recommend it to all my clients.
The Importance of Podcast Strategy
Leah Bryant [00:01:07]:
But first, let's start where all great podcast decisions start. And that, my friend, is with strategy. That's right, the first phase of my seamless podcast framework. Because here's what I want you to remember. Your podcast hosting platform is the foundation for your show's growth, right? It's not just a place where you're gonna just upload audio files and be done with it. If your strategy is to use your podcast to grow your business, which I know it is because you're here, you need a host that makes it easy to track performance, right? You wanna understand what's working and integrate with your marketing systems. If your strategy is pure storytelling or creative expression, you might prioritize customization, community features, or cost instead. So before you even start comparing platforms, I want you to ask yourself these three questions.
Key Podcast Hosting Questions to Ask Yourself
Leah Bryant [00:02:00]:
Number one, what kind of podcast am I running and what's the goal? Are you using your podcast to attract leads, build community, or share your personal story? If you're building brand authority or want business results, you're going to want clear analytics and strong distribution tools, right? If it's more of a hobby or a creative outlet, your needs might be simpler and you just need something that's easy and reliable. All right, question number two. How do I plan to monetize or measure success? So some hosts integrate with sponsorship networks, ad programs. Others give you detailed Lister analytics so you can measure conversions from specific episodes. And if you're not planning to run ads, but you are planning to use your podcast to drive business, focus on analytics that help you see which episodes bring listeners back or get shared most often. I will also add here that when I say ads, this could Also mean you running your own ads for your own offers. Yes. If you are not doing this, please do this.
Leah Bryant [00:03:13]:
And another reason why I love Buzzsprout, because it makes it so easy with dynamic ad insertion, where you just upload your ad, you pop it in, you tell it where you want to put it in the episode, either pre roll, mid or post roll, and it will put it on every single episode that's live within your buzzsprout. All right. RSS feed. And I love it. So, yes, if you have questions about running your own ads, please send me a dm. I'm here to help you and I want to help you. So let's do it. Okay.
Deciding on Support Needs and Platform Simplicity
Leah Bryant [00:03:42]:
All right, moving along. Question number three. How much support and simplicity do I need? Well, if you're a DIY podcaster, you'll want a platform that's intuitive and doesn't require a tech degree. Okay. Now, if you're outsourcing production to, like, someone like Leah Bryant, you're going to want to choose a host that makes collaboration simple, that you can share how they log in, maybe automatic publishing, things like that. Another reason why I love buzzsprout, because with buzzsprout, you can add a team member and I can log into buzzsprout under my email, and every single podcast that I produce comes up. And it's so easy and amazing because it's all right there. Bam.
Podcast Consulting for Clarity and Strategy
Leah Bryant [00:04:24]:
It. Yes. That's what we all need in our lives these days, right? And, hey, if this part already feels like a lot to sort through, I get it. And that's exactly the kind of thing I help my clients with in my podcast consulting sessions. Yes, we spend 60 minutes together, either on a Zoom inboxer or Telegram. I know you're busy, whichever one of those works for you. And we're going to map out what fits your goals so you can move forward without second guessing. Because sometimes it's about choosing a host and sometimes it's about refining your show concept.
Leah Bryant [00:05:00]:
Either way, you will walk away knowing exactly what to do next. I love offering these consulting sessions. They're super easy, they're affordable, and we're able to do a whole lot in 60 minutes. All right, now, when I first started producing podcasts so many years ago, five years, it seems like a long time. Two thousand episodes later, here we are. I tested the gamut of hosting platforms. I wanted to know what they did, I wanted to know how they worked. I wanted to be able to give my opinion.
Why Buzzsprout Is My Recommended Podcast Host
Leah Bryant [00:05:33]:
Right? Some had fancy dashboards, some were super cheap. Some felt like I needed an IT team to upload an episode. But then, my friend, I found buzzsprout and the angels sang. And honestly, it was like a breath of fresh air, right? Because, like, in my five years of using it, what's kept me loyal isn't just that it works, because it does, is that the user interface is simple, it's clean, and it actually makes sense. I don't have to dig through layers of menus to find my analytics. I don't have to wonder where my latest episode went. Everything is right there, neatly organized. And speaking of analytics, I love buzzsprout because they break them down so beautifully.
Leah Bryant [00:06:19]:
I can see which apps my listeners use, which episodes perform best, and how download trends are changing over time. I love how they break it down between 7 day, 30 day, 90 day, and all time. It really gives you that granular perspective of how each episode is doing. And it can help you make decisions on future content. And having that clarity, that helps me make strategic decisions. Right? Not just about my podcast, but about my business and my clients podcast. Because when I can see what's resonating, I can double down on what works. And that's how strategy and data come together to create my favorite word, momentum.
Comparing Podcast Hosting Platforms: What to Look For
Leah Bryant [00:07:00]:
All right, so you might be like, okay, Leah, this is so great, but can we make it a little practical? And yes, friend, that's why I'm here. When you're comparing hosting platforms, here's what I want you to look at. First up is ease of use. Does the dashboard make sense to you? It doesn't matter if it makes sense to me, but does it make sense to you? And can you upload and publish easily? Next is the analytics. Are they clear? Are they helpful? Or are they just numbers with, like, no actual contacts and you're just looking at them going, huh? Then the next thing is distribution. Does it automatically send your show to Apple, Spotify, and all the other platforms? And of course there is support. Do they have helpful tutorials or will you be stuck waiting for a support email forever? And last, but certainly not least is the growth tools. Do they make it easy to add show notes, transcripts, chapter markers, dynamic content, later on? All the things.
Leah Bryant [00:07:59]:
Right? I don't want you to get distracted by bells and whistles that sound fancy, but don't serve your goals because that's easy to do. I want you to remember that simple and strategic beats complicated every single time, okay? Because at the end of the day, your hosting platform is a strategy tool and not just a place where you're gonna have storage of your audio files. Okay, if it helps you understand your audience, simplify your workflow, and make better decisions, well, quite frankly, that's a win in my book. And if you choose something else that works for you, that, my friend, is also a win. The right choice is the one that helps you stay consistent, confident and clear on what your podcast is doing for your business. Now, inside my Seamless Podcast framework, this is the strategy phase in action, right? You're making decisions that align with your big picture goals instead of getting lost in the noise of what everyone else is using. When you lead with strategy, your execution gets smoother, your attraction gets stronger, and guess what? Your momentum builds naturally. Yep, because you're focused on what fits you and not what's trending.

Leah Bryant [00:09:17]:
