5 Podcast SEO Fixes for Discoverability with Jennifer Dent Brown

Here's what you can expect from this episode:

If you’ve ever looked at your podcast and thought, “I’m doing everything I’m supposed to… so why isn’t this growing the way it should?”…welcome, friend. You are in good company.

Here’s what I see most often: podcasters assume they have a motivation problem or a content problem. But nine times out of ten? It’s a podcast SEO and strategy problem hiding underneath a very full to-do list.

That’s exactly what we tackled in today’s live coaching session with Jennifer Dent Brown, host of Stop Dieting Forever and a top 2.5% podcaster (yes, really). Jennifer came in wanting more clarity, more discoverability, and more intentional growth, and within minutes, we uncovered the tweaks that can create that shift.

These are changes any entrepreneur-hosted podcast can implement. And once you hear the things Jennifer updated in real time during this call? You’ll start seeing your own show through a sharper, more strategic lens.

Today’s episode is a behind-the-scenes look at what truly moves the needle in podcast growth: better positioning, clearer messaging, strategic SEO, and a podcast workflow that doesn’t rely on guesswork or luck.

Why Your Podcast Growth Might Be Stalling (Even When Your Content Is Good)

Your content isn’t the problem, but your visibility strategy might be.

When your podcast title, description, categories, or keyword structure don’t match what your ideal listeners are actually searching for, your show becomes harder to discover, no matter how strong your episodes are.

But when your podcast strategy is aligned with how people actually search? Here’s what shifts:
  • Your show becomes easier to find inside Apple Podcasts and Google
  • Your listeners instantly know your show is built for them
  • Your episodes feel more intentional and lead people toward your offers
  • You spend less time wondering “Why isn’t this working?” and more time watching your audience grow
This is the heart of the Strategy and Attraction phases of the SEAMless Podcast Framework™, clarity and discoverability working together.

Here’s what’s covered

[00:02:41] Refining Your Podcast Positioning
Why adding a clear, keyword-rich subtitle can dramatically improve your podcast’s searchability, and how Jennifer updated hers on the spot.

[00:03:11] Keywords That Work with Podcast Players
Apple Podcasts, Podbean, and Google all handle tags differently. I’ll show you the simple shift that helps your show rank for the topics your audience is already searching.

[00:06:27] Cover Art That Converts
How increasing visual clarity (and making your face bigger!) helps both human listeners and podcast algorithms understand what your show is about immediately.

[00:12:19] Podcast Descriptions That Do Double Duty
Why adding audience-specific questions improves search results, and how Jennifer’s new description now answers exactly what her listeners are typing into Google.

[00:17:22] The Intro Problem Most Podcasters Don’t See
How to shorten your intro so listeners stay longer, and how to repurpose your current intro into a stronger, more compelling trailer.

[00:26:01] Episode-Level SEO (The Growth Lever You’re Probably Missing)
Where to place keywords in each episode so your content becomes discoverable long after release, including the 3–6 keyword rule for every description.

[00:33:55] Promotion That Actually Builds Momentum
The weekly posting plan that boosts early listening spikes (and why the first 72 hours matter more than most podcasters realize).

[00:44:31] Weaving Your Offers Into Episodes (Without Being Salesy)
Why listener conversion has nothing to do with salesiness, and everything to do with storytelling, timing, and relevance to the episode topic.

[00:47:11] The Power of Early CTAs
Why waiting until the end of the episode is costing you leads, and how to place CTAs where people will actually hear them.

Important Note About AI & Keyword Research

In this episode, I mention that ChatGPT can help you pull keyword ideas, and it can. But here’s the critical part: do not rely on ChatGPT (or any AI tool) for accurate SEO data.

AI can brainstorm, but it cannot validate.

Before you use any keywords AI suggests, you need to test them in an actual SEO tool like:

  • Keysearch.co
  • Ubersuggest
  • Semrush

These tools show you real search volume, competition levels, and whether people are actually searching for those terms. Without that validation step, you’re guessing and guessing doesn’t grow podcasts.

Use AI as a starting point. Use SEO tools to make strategic decisions.

What Happened During the Coaching Session

Throughout this call, Jennifer updated her podcast positioning, subtitle, keywords, and categories live. These are the kinds of shifts that create noticeable growth within 30 days, and not because of hacks, but because the podcast now matches how her ideal listener searches.

This is the Execution and Momentum phases of the SEAMless Podcast Framework™ in action — small strategic adjustments that create long-term compound growth.

The SEAMless Podcast Framework™ at Work

Everything we covered today sits inside the four core phases:
  • Strategy → Set the foundation for clarity and discoverability
  • Execution → Use workflows and systems that reduce decision fatigue
  • Attraction → Make your podcast SEO-friendly and listener-friendly
  • Momentum → Promote consistently and track what’s actually working
When these phases work together, your podcast becomes easier to run, grow, and convert into clients.

Your podcast needs alignment between what you’re creating and how people discover you.

When you tighten your podcast strategy, clarify who it’s for, optimize your keywords, and simplify your workflow, podcasting becomes less of a grind and more of a growth engine.
