“Your podcast episode title is an invitation. Make it clear, make it searchable, and make it count.” – Leah Bryant
Leah Bryant [00:00:00]: Welcome back to the Podcasting Problem Solver. I'm Leah Bryant, podcast growth strategist and coach, here to help entrepreneurs podcast with more clarity, less overwhelm, and better results. You know those podcast titles that sound super fun but tell you absolutely nothing about what the episode's talking about? Well, they don't help the search engines and honestly don't really help your listener either. This is your Thursday Quick Win, the short, actionable tip that helps your podcast work harder for your business every single week. And today we are talking about just that, right? Choose clear over clever when writing your episode titles. Because clarity, my friends, is what gets you found. Your episode title isn't a cute headline for entertainment. Nope, it's a search signal, right? If you want your show to appear when people search for help, ideas or solutions, well, then your title must clearly convey what the episode is about.
Why Clarity Beats Cleverness in Podcast Episode Titles
Leah Bryant [00:01:12]: Let's look at an example. So a title like Finding your voice might sound poetic, but what does it even mean? Is it about confidence? Maybe the messaging or microphone technique? If your audience can't tell what they're going to learn, they're going to scroll right past. Now let's change it up. What if it's something like how to sound more confident behind the mic? That tells a different story, Right? Because suddenly it's searchable and clickable. Listeners know what to expect and their search engines know who to show it to.
PSO and SEO-Friendly Podcast Titles: A Simple Formula
Here is a simple formula for PSO and SEO friendly titles that I want you to use. I want you to use keywords your ideal listener would actually search for. Number two, I want you to include the transformation or topic very clearly.
Leah Bryant [00:02:03]: And number three, keep it under around 60 characters so that the title shows up in every app. Okay, so instead of spinning the wheel of content, which doesn't tell me anything, what if we use something like how to plan podcast content without burning out that tells a different story. It's still creative, but clear enough for Apple, Spotify, and yes, even Google to connect you with the right listeners. I saw this play out recently with a client who swapped a vague title for one that included a target keyword, which was email marketing strategy. And that one small tweak doubled her downloads in a week. That, my friends, is the power of clarity. It's discoverability and data working together. If you're stuck, you can use ChatGPT or a keyword tool like Ubersuggest.
How to Find Keywords That Boost Podcast Visibility
Leah Bryant [00:02:49]: You just type in your topic and see what people are actually searching for. You can even go to the Google search bar and just start there too. And Whatever phrases that come up, those are going to be your SEO and PSO gold, right? And remember, every listener who finds you through search is one step closer to becoming a lead. Visibility is what builds momentum, and momentum is one of the four phases of my Seamless Podcast Framework.
