How to Write Podcast Episode Titles That Get You Found

Here's what you can expect from this episode:

Most podcasters love a clever title, something fun, catchy, or mysterious. But the truth is, if your podcast episode titles sound creative but don’t actually say what the episode is about, you’re leaving discoverability (and new listeners) on the table.

This Thursday Quick Win is your reminder to choose clear over clever, because clarity is what gets you found.

In this episode, I’m walking you through how to write podcast episode titles that boost podcast PSO and SEO, attract ideal listeners, and help your show rank inside podcast apps and on Google. Whether you’re launching or growing, this quick mindset shift can make a massive difference in your visibility and downloads.

Why Clear Episode Titles Matter for Podcast PSO and SEO

Your title isn’t just a headline for your podcast. It’s a search signal. Search engines and podcast apps use your titles to understand who your content is for.

When your title matches the exact phrases your audience is typing into search (like “how to start a podcast” or “how to sound confident behind the mic”), your chances of showing up skyrocket.

Clarity is what connects your content to the right listeners. The ones who need your expertise and are ready to take action.

The SEAMless Podcast Framework™ in Action

Strategy: Use keyword tools to identify what your listeners are searching for and write titles that clearly match those terms.

Execution: Keep your titles under 60 characters and lead with searchable phrases your audience understands.

Attraction: Clear, searchable titles make your show easier to find on Apple, Spotify, and, yes, even Google.

Momentum: When your podcast is discoverable, visibility compounds, creating ongoing growth and engagement.

Quick Tips for SEO-Friendly Podcast Titles

Before you hit publish, check your title against this mini-checklist:
  • Include your primary keyword (like “podcast SEO” or “podcast episode titles”) in the first few words.
  • Keep it clear, not cryptic — say exactly what listeners will learn.
  • Stay under 60 characters so your full title displays across all platforms.
  • Make sure it aligns with your content strategy and next CTA.
Small tweaks like these can turn your titles into powerful marketing tools, attracting new listeners, improving visibility, and keeping your podcast top of mind.

Leah Bryant [00:00:00]: Welcome back to the Podcasting Problem Solver. I'm Leah Bryant, podcast growth strategist and coach, here to help entrepreneurs podcast with more clarity, less overwhelm, and better results. You know those podcast titles that sound super fun but tell you absolutely nothing about what the episode's talking about? Well, they don't help the search engines and honestly don't really help your listener either. This is your Thursday Quick Win, the short, actionable tip that helps your podcast work harder for your business every single week. And today we are talking about just that, right? Choose clear over clever when writing your episode titles. Because clarity, my friends, is what gets you found. Your episode title isn't a cute headline for entertainment. Nope, it's a search signal, right? If you want your show to appear when people search for help, ideas or solutions, well, then your title must clearly convey what the episode is about.

Why Clarity Beats Cleverness in Podcast Episode Titles

Leah Bryant [00:01:12]: Let's look at an example. So a title like Finding your voice might sound poetic, but what does it even mean? Is it about confidence? Maybe the messaging or microphone technique? If your audience can't tell what they're going to learn, they're going to scroll right past. Now let's change it up. What if it's something like how to sound more confident behind the mic? That tells a different story, Right? Because suddenly it's searchable and clickable. Listeners know what to expect and their search engines know who to show it to.

PSO and SEO-Friendly Podcast Titles: A Simple Formula

Here is a simple formula for PSO and SEO friendly titles that I want you to use. I want you to use keywords your ideal listener would actually search for. Number two, I want you to include the transformation or topic very clearly.

Leah Bryant [00:02:03]: And number three, keep it under around 60 characters so that the title shows up in every app. Okay, so instead of spinning the wheel of content, which doesn't tell me anything, what if we use something like how to plan podcast content without burning out that tells a different story. It's still creative, but clear enough for Apple, Spotify, and yes, even Google to connect you with the right listeners. I saw this play out recently with a client who swapped a vague title for one that included a target keyword, which was email marketing strategy. And that one small tweak doubled her downloads in a week. That, my friends, is the power of clarity. It's discoverability and data working together. If you're stuck, you can use ChatGPT or a keyword tool like Ubersuggest.

How to Find Keywords That Boost Podcast Visibility

Leah Bryant [00:02:49]: You just type in your topic and see what people are actually searching for. You can even go to the Google search bar and just start there too. And Whatever phrases that come up, those are going to be your SEO and PSO gold, right? And remember, every listener who finds you through search is one step closer to becoming a lead. Visibility is what builds momentum, and momentum is one of the four phases of my Seamless Podcast Framework. If you're realizing your podcast titles and maybe your overall content strategy could use some fine tuning, that's exactly what we tackle inside the Seamless sprint.
